Octet Scientific

Octet Scientific, Inc. was founded in 2017 to address an unmet need for support chemistry in the Zinc Battery industry. Zinc is a very attractive energy metal because it is safe, cheap, plentiful, recyclable and green, but several complications centered around recharging have slowed the emergence of this technology into markets like grid storage, stationary power, electric vehicles, and portable devices. Observing that recharging is the problematic bottleneck for zinc, Octet is applying its expertise designing and producing electrolyte additives, chemical designed to control recharging, to help bring zinc batteries to these markets. A recent recipient of an SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation, Octet is now partnering with Zinc Battery manufacturers of various chemistries to develop value-adding chemicals to improve efficiency, cycle life, safety, and ease of operation for next-generation Zinc Batteries.

NEOEx Systems

Our mission is to provide useful information to our customers through the dispatch of long endurance unmanned aerial vehicles at affordable prices.

There are many types and sizes of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), which are also known as drones. Types of vehicles include quad copters, small hand thrown fixed-wing planes, medium sized vehicles that can be catapult launched or take off from short run ways or very large vehicles that can fly around the world conducting recognizance missions and launching missiles.

One of the main challenges for UAV operators is flight duration. Typical UAVs use batteries or internal combustion engines for propulsion. Batteries are extremely heavy for driving propellers with electric motors, and internal combustion engines are very inefficient at converting aviation fuels to drive propellers mechanically thus limiting flight duration.

A more efficient propulsion system is one that uses hydrogen fuel that is light weight and an energy efficient fuel cell to convert the hydrogen into electricity to drive the electric motors. NEOEx Systems was founded to provide UAV data collection services for customers using a UAV platform powered by fuel cells and liquid hydrogen. Using the liquid hydrogen as a fuel is unique and will extend the duration up to 72 hours of continuous operation without refueling.

NEOEx is already under contract to develop and demonstrate a gaseous hydrogen fueled prototype of this platform this year for the National Weather Service under a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I activity with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  The SBIR Phase II effort will be to fly with liquid hydrogen.

MedaSync

MedaSync provides real-time, predictive business intelligence and decision support software to help nursing homes stay financially sound.

At Medasync, our mission is to help nursing homes stay financial sound in a reimbursement reform era.  We aim to accomplish this as the only real-time, predictive software in the market that takes the guesswork out of managing costs and insurance contract workflows. The idea for MedaSync spun out of market need.  Our founding team has spent the better part of a decade selling software and working with nursing homes.  Through that time, we’ve seen a number of new trends and problems emerge in the market as a result of healthcare reform’s shift towards providing the best care at the lowest cost.  We spent some time watching these trends, listening and learning from our network and testing a few theories with clients.  Today, we have early product in market with 10 installs, 3 channel partnerships and 7 employees.  Our next significant milestone will be closing out our seed funding round which is targeted to close at $750,000.

MBRIO Technologies

Mbrio Technologies was inspired by the founders' own experience as expectant parents who wanted to play music to their baby in the womb, but realized existing solutions were potentially unsafe, uncomfortable, inconvenient, and/or expensive. Mbrio technologies first product is a patented earbud adapter which enables pregnant moms to play music safely and comfortably in the womb. This product's unique design uses a thin layer of medical-grade sillicone rubber to attenuate the intensity of the earbud audio to safe levels, even when the mother's phone is playing at maximum volume.

Markers

Markers is an enterprise software application which enables publicly listed companies to have more fluid conversations with their internal and external stakeholders.

Markers was founded by Reginald Cash.  Reginald spent the last 10 years working on Wall Street in New York before returning to Cleveland to found Markers.

At Markers, we believe a shorter time to information is the key to unlocking investor relations ‘alpha’.  A company that has a shorter time-to-information can attract, engage and convert more institutional investors and potential shareholders.  Markers provides a knowledge repository, a single point of entry for content.   It is the first step towards achieving the premium available to any publicly listed company.

At many companies dated business processes means the information that’s most relevant to external stakeholders is trapped in inboxes, filings, and word documents.  As a result, despite their best efforts,  the task of delivering valuable information and being responsive to information requests is severely undermined.

Markers will allow publicly listed companies to have a continuous dialogue with the investing public. A fluid/symmetrical flow of information between listed companies and investors is the keystone of capitalism.

Several of Ohio’s largest companies are using our platform.  We have some exciting new features planned and we’re looking forward to disrupting a critical but often overlooked aspect of the financial markets.

Okapi Medical

Okapi Medical is developing innovative polymer-based wound closure solutions with indications including high skin tension locations that are easier for surgeons to apply and provide aesthetically superior results for patients.

Compared to stitches and staples, Suture Glue is quick and easy to apply, causes no pain, and does not require a second removal procedure. Suture Glue outperforms other wound closure adhesives (Dermabond®, IndermilTM and Histoacryl®) by using a proprietary polymer that is more flexible, viscous and biocompatible, leading to easier application and better wound closure product is designed to allow the surrounding skin to bend and flex ensuring better wound closure and healing. This will expand clinical usage of adhesive wound closure products, as well as reducing costs through procedure time and follow-up suture removal.
